Dark Water 2007

If one were to add meta tags for this movie, they would be, - supernatural, revenge, murder, love triangle, jealousy and ghosts. I note that a HKflix.com shows a customer rating of 4 out of 5 for this movie.

I came across a small blog site presented by an Asian girl (probably Malaysian), who takes pride in not being afraid of horror movies, - but this one was a bit different ....

If you're a friend of mine IRL (in real life), you'll know that I'm REALLY a horror movie addict! One of the peak of my teenage life was to watch ALL, literally, ALL horror movies that are showing in the cinema! How freakish is that? And to tell you, I don't mind watching alone!MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~ XD I'm proud of not being freak out by those horror scenes in movies!!!!!!!

I think I watched this for 2 or 3 times at Cinema. The creepy ambience of the whole movie give people a chill! Even guys were nervous watching this! One thing I remember is when the mum head back to house to find her child, a guy in the cinema suddenly shout: Oi! Kat tandas!!! TANDAS!!!! (At Toilet! Toilet!!!) Then the whole cinema burst in laughter!! See!? I told ya guys were nervous!

Synopsis - Sak, a police officer on the duty to track a mafia in a small village meets there a pretty local girl named Nuan, and fell in love with her.

But Nuan's friend, a jealous girl named Saipin, was disappointed to know that Sak didn't love her.

Saipin was full with envy, and schemed to take Sak away, - so she and her companies conspired to get rid of Nuan.

Later, Nuan was cruelly murdered by a river. With the grudge in her mind before death, Nuan's spirit turns to be a vengeful ghost by the river waiting for her chance to revenge.

Directed by Jarun Wongsatja - Starring Chartchai Ngamsan, Chutikarn Janranan, Samart Payakurun, Jeab Chuanyum and ors.

Ploy 2009

Ploy - Movie Flyer
Ploy 2009 aka Ploy - Movie Poster on some sites, however, this may be an error, as I can see no reason for it.

Rating - Psychological thriller.

This movie was on release to Thai cinemas in 2007, and released to the rest of Asia on DVD in August 2009.

Synopsis -

Every relationship has an expiration date. Every relationship needs its fantasies...some more real than others.

A violent death of a relative brings Wit and his wife, Dang, back to Bangkok from America, where they own a Thai restaurant, for the first time in 7 years.

As soon as they arrive in Bangkok at 5.30 am. Wit and Dang check into a five-star hotel downtown.

Wit finds out that he is out of cigarettes once they are inside the room.

He goes down to the lobby bar. After getting his pack of cigarette from the bartender Wit decides to order a cup of coffee and smoke his cigarette there.

The girl from the table in the dark corner comes to Wit to ask if she could borrow his lighter. Wit hands her his lighter. Then she asks if she could borrow one cigarette too. The girl sits down and lights up one of his cigarettes and they somehow strike up a conversation. Wit learns that her name is PLOY. This is how our little tale of love and jealousy begins.

A highly detailed psychological drama with three strangers locked inside one hotel room.

It starts with subtle suspicions and builds up to hilarious jealousy, - as the appearance of the young woman triggers Wit to suddenly realize how he and Dang had grown apart in their seven year marriage.

In the final act, the couple is faced with the choice of going separate ways or turning around and embracing each other for a new beginning.

The Siam Rennaisance 2004

The Siam Rennaisance
The Siam Rennaisance 2004 aka Tawipop

This is a movie I have had since it was first released as a DVD in Thailand, but I have not profiled it previously as I felt the portrayal of the novel from which it was derived might be confusing.

In particular, how the main character moves repeatedly from modern day Bangkok to ancient Siam.

How she does it is not so important, the concept of a time traveler is not difficult to follow.

Synopsis -

A mirror joins two worlds, modern-day Bangkok and Bangkok under Rama IV, together. Maneechan, a diplomat investigating recently uncovered documents in France concerning ancient Thailand, learns the story behind them first hand as she travels back in time through a mirror.

Maneejan is a Paris-based archive specialist.

A mysterious French work is brought to her for interpretation at the Thai consulate in Paris. She realizes the document is Voyageur, written by naturalist Francois Xavier about Siam in the mid 19th century.

Maneejan is moved by the record's allusions to Siam's shadowy past. When she returns to Thailand, she finds herself in a half-dream state, witnessing and experiencing her home country as it was more than a century ago, Siam, as it struggled to defy outside influences to become a new civilization.

Maneejan learns much about her country's history, becomes a fighter alongside her cultural ancestors, and finds valuable lessons in life and love along the way.

Directed by Surapong Pinijkhar - Starring Vanchart Chunsri, Pisek Intrakanchit, Rangsiroj Panpeng, Birut Sirichanya and Peeruth Tulananda

The Eye 3
The Eye 3 2008

Horror movie aka Gin Gwin 10 and The Eye 10

Synopsis -

Some believe that our world is one of many, that our existence is merely an intersection between countless dimensions known and unknown.

We run into strangers we don't see, hum tunes we don't hear. Most of us remain ignorant, but there are always those who are a little different. They would risk everything to find the truth and for the thrill of seeing the other side just once in their lives.

In the world of psychics, despite widely different rites and practices, there exists a single mutual void – the Rite of Eight  the last and most powerful resort to make contact with the spiritual world.

No one seems to know its origin, but no one doubts its authenticity, because just like any other unsolvable myth, those who go there have never returned to testify.

Directed by Oxide Pang Chun - Starring Chen Bo-Lin and Isabella Leong.
