Vow Of Death 2009

Picture
Vow Of Death
Vow Of Death 2009 may well be a quite good teen comedy, from the Director of Necromancer, which itself was a great success.

There is no YouTube video on the Net, except as an embed in a torrent site. Vow Of Death is unlikely to not be good, given the ability of the Director Piyapan  Choopetch. But as the review suggests, it is intended for a teen audience.

This is his second feature film, and certainly suggests his versatility, ranging from horror to comedy.

The movie stars - Chat

Synopsis -

The film is about four mischievous high school boys who are concerned they won't pass the upcoming exam for college entrance.

They decide to visit a holy banyan tree to pray, so that they might pass the exam easily.

When there, they meet a taxi driver who prays to win the lottery.

Soon, the five of them find that their wishes become reality, but inexplicable things begin to happen to them, as they did not given thanks to the tree.

Tropical Malady 2004

Picture
Tropical Malady
Tropical Malady 2004

This movie was entered in the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, and won a jury award.

 Some reviewer comments

Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who also directed Blissfully Yours. Starring Vichit Tanapanitch, Jarin Pengpanitch and Jean-Louis Vialard.

It is one of those gay oriented movies that really doesn't go too far, or even very far.

This movie transforms about half way through, to become something quite different than how it started. Not at all as you would expect. It might be described as an experimental art film.

Synopsis -

Something magical is in the air.

Times are happy and love is uncomplicated for forest warden Keng and country boy Tong.

Together they play ball, spend pleasant evenings with Tong’s family and enjoy song filled nights in town. Then Tong disappears.

Cows of the region are being slaughtered at night by some kind of wild beast. Local legends say a human can somehow be transformed into a tiger.

A soldier goes alone into the heart of the jungle, where he tracks by day, but becomes the prey at night. In this tropical jungle, myth is often real.

Me...Myself 2007

Me...Myself
Me...Myself aka Sweet Christmas 2007

This drama directed by Ponpat Wachirabunjong has had some pretty good personal reviews, according to my observation of Thai movie forums.

Until now, I had only come across the Korean subtitled version of the movie. But now it is available with English subtitles.

Synopsis -

He cooks. He cleans. He loves her for who she is.

He is everything her ex-boyfriend is not: gentle, sensitive, and supportive, "No, you don't look fat in that dress!".

What's the problem?

He's gay and she doesn't know it. Neither does he.

Such is the premise of Me... Myself, a big screen directorial debut from veteran actor and television director Pongpat Wachirabunjong.

It opens with a heartbroken "Oom", accidentally hitting a man and giving him amnesia.

Feeling guilty, Oom takes him into her own apartment and calls him "Tan", after the word on the necklace found on him.

They fall in love but Oom soon discovers Tan is gay and, and more shockingly, the star of a transvestite cabaret show in Phuket.

Starring Ananda Everingham and Chaianan Manomaisantiphip

6ixtynin9 is not a sex comedy, as some may think the title suggests, - but it is a comedy.

And a very good comedy directed by Pen-ek Ratanaruang, who directed Last Life In the Universe, Invisible Waves and Monrak Transistor. The movie release was in 1999.

Some of the main stars of this movie are Lalita Panyopas, Prompop Lee and Surapong Mekpongsathorn.

Soon Tum has two corpses on the floor.

Omen
Omen 2003 aka Sung Horn is as the DVD cover suggests a horror movie.

It seems it's main redeeming feature might be that it featured the artists of the Thai boyband of the time, D2B = Dan, Big and Beam. Big - Panrawat Kittikorncharoen, Dan - Worrawech Danuwong, Beam - Kawee Tanjararak.

Soon after this movie was made, Big was involved in an horrific car accident on July 22 2003 ,  causing his body to be thrown into a sewerage canal.

He ingested a lot of the polluted water and suffered bacterial brain damage, causing him to remain in a coma for 4 years.

He died on December 9 2007 without recovering.

Synopsis -

Strange things start happening when separate twists of fate bring each of three friends, Big, Dan and Beam, into contact with three strangers - an old woman who tells prophecies, a little girl who sells garlands on the street and a young woman named Aom.

What none of them realize is that not only is there a connection between the three females, but also between the guys themselves and their destinies. But it starts to become clear that one them is fated to die. But which one? And why?
