The Tiger Blade 2005 aka Tiger Must Die
Picture
The Tiger Blade
The Tiger Blade 2005 is claimed by some to try and capitalize on the martial arts hit movies Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong.

Actually though not quite to the same standard, the martial arts are nevertheless commendable in The Tiger Blade.

Whereas the two movies mentioned were somewhat overweight with the seriousness of martial arts, this movie counterbalances it with some humor.

The story is one of cops versus baddies, - the baddies in this case trying to restore territory subjugated by Thailand, - presumably a long time ago.

However the baddies are endued with magical forces, with some being able to "cancel out" bullets, and others who are bullet proof.

Supercop "Yos" Atsadawut Luengsuntorn, must find a sword, The Tiger Blade" which can nullify the magic powers of the enemy.

He is helped by the well endowed police babe Deung Dao, a fat side kick with a spouse problem and a computer geek.

The movie stars Atsadawut Luengsuntorn and Phimonrat Phisarabud.

Director - Teeratorn Siripunwara.

The Trek
2002

Picture
The Trek
This movie has no images on the Net (apart from vendors), YouTube videos, or reviews.

I feel the story line is interesting, and a little unusual, and therefore feel it is worthy of inclusion.

Though I found virtually no information about the movie, I was encouraged by a customer review from someone in Washington who bought the DVD from EThaicd.com in Bangkok, who said :-

This movie is sooo.... cool it has a lot scary gross scenes. The story line is really good too. The computer graphics is really dramatic. If you buy this movie you wont regret it its worth all your money.

The story is about the discovery of a rare Asian elephant discovered in the Thai jungle. The Kochaban Club, an elephant protection group and a team of foreign researchers set out to try and find the rare elephant in it's habitat.

The jungle it inhabits is host to many dangers, from threatening drug addicts to an array of dangerous animals.

No explorer has ever returned from a trek into this wilderness.

The group are unable to find a tribesman brave enough to take them into this part of the jungle. Regardless, the group proceed on their own, and soon discover a host of dangers closing in on them.

Directed by Chanchai Pantasi and starring Danai Smuthkochorn, Paul Visut Carey, Manaswee Krittanookul and Eilidh MacQueen.

The Iron Ladies 2001

Picture
The Iron Ladies
The Iron Ladies - a movie going back to 2001, is without doubt one of the funniest movies Thailand has ever produced.

It is a feel good comedy, happy and bright, with music to match.

It was a huge hit in Thailand, and was the second highest gross earning movie for the industry.

Seen in quite a few countries around the world, with subtitles, it was also seen on national TV in Australia, several times, courtesy of the SBS government network.

The movie is based on true story.

Essentially it is about an unlikely volleyball team made up of assorted recruits consisting mostly of effeminate men, transvestites and transsexuals who defy all expectations in winning the national championships, embarrassing their macho male opposition team.

The Lesbian coach played by Sridhana Hongsophon sets up the team, and is helped by the captain of the team "Chai" played by Jesdaporn Pholdee, who was rejected from the opposition team for his support of fairness and sympathy for the gay team.

This really is one of the classic great movies of all time, and is one you must see and own.

Directed by Yongyoot Thonkongtoon.

It no longer seems to be available in Thailand.

The Iron Ladies 2 2003
Picture
The Iron Ladies 2
The Iron Ladies 2 of 2003 is the sequel to the "Iron Ladies".

The volleyball team experiences difficulty with their success and subsequent fame. Ultimately the team separates, with Nong joining a rival team.

Jung is greatly offended by this, and disavows Nong's friendship.

In this sequel which is also a prequel, Jung explains to Chai how the team members met up in the first place, and they decide to go to China to try and find Pia, who is performing as a cabaret artist after a "boob" job.

They set out to reprise the "Iron Ladies" volleyball team and try out for the national championship in Chiang Mai.

Is the result predicatable? Perhaps not!

The YouTube video is an impromptu performance by some of the volleyball team for Coach Bee's birthday at the cabaret where Pia was performing.

I feel that many who saw the original "Iron Ladies", may be unaware of "Iron Ladies" 2, and therefore missed out on this very funny conclusion to the story.

The first part was based on a true story, but the sequel is fiction.

If you did see "The Iron Ladies", you simply must see the prequel/sequel.
